Ordinary comments, questions about intimate life and unwanted messages: an employee in a production company was subjected to sexual harassment by her manager for a long time. He also did not shy away from attacks. The AK OÖ fought for 4,000 euros in compensation for the woman.
The woman was sexually harassed over a long period of time and was also physically abused. Her superior tried to demand sexual favors as “compensation” for his accommodating business needs. He commented on her appearance, made vulgar remarks, asked about her intimate life and constantly talked about sex in her presence. In addition, the manager harassed the employee with pornographic and vulgar digital messages.
The supervisor even hit the woman
All this despite the woman explaining several times that his behavior made her uncomfortable and that he should stop. The situation escalated when the supervisor even hit the woman for the rejection. The woman became ill and saw no other way out than ending the employment relationship. She then turned to the AK Upper Austria for help. During extrajudicial negotiations, the woman managed to win 4,000 euros as compensation for the personal disability she had suffered.
Sexual harassment is clearly against the law
Sexual harassment in the workplace is not only disgusting and unprofessional, it is also against the Equal Treatment Act. As defined by the International Labor Organization (ILO), sexual harassment in the workplace describes any act, event or behavior deviating from appropriate behavior in which a person is seriously insulted, threatened, injured or injured during or as a direct result of their work. In any case, the dignity of the person concerned, as well as sexual integrity and intimacy, are violated.
14 percent of women suffer from it
The AK Upper Austria Work Climate Index shows that sexual harassment is widespread: 14 percent of women surveyed stated that they had already experienced sexual violence in the workplace. Four percent report messages with sexual content from the work environment.
