Terrible accident on Sunday in the early morning hours in Vienna: an 18-year-old driver lost control of his car on the S2 in Vienna. The car crashed into a concrete barrier. All help came too late for his 17-year-old passenger. The 18-year-old’s life is in danger. Another passenger (16) was also seriously injured.
The three young boys were driving on the S22 in the area of Hermann-Gebauer-Straße in Donaustadt around 3 a.m. when the drama began: the 18-year-old driver was driving at too high speed when he suddenly lost control of the car.
Car caught fire
The car skidded, left the road, overturned and crashed into a concrete barrier. Within seconds the vehicle caught fire.
Witnesses to the accident tried to pull the driver and his two passengers, aged 16 and 17, from the burning car. A taxi driver driving on the other side of the road jumped over the guardrail to help.
Particularly tragic: According to the police, relatives of the victims may have been in the car behind the accident vehicle. “They all tried to help, which was an incredible achievement considering the circumstances. The car was on fire,” said police spokesman Markus Dittrich.
The 16-year-old and the driver were rescued, but all help came too late for the 17-year-old.
The two rescued boys were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The 18-year-old’s life is in immediate danger.
