More than a year after the crash of a Blue Origin rocket, billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ American space company has postponed its return to space.
An initially scheduled start for Monday was initially postponed due to weather conditions and then canceled completely. A new start date should be announced later this week.
During the failed launch in September 2022, the space capsule separated from the rocket’s engine after onboard instruments detected an anomaly. The engine crashed to the ground, the space capsule landed with parachutes and remained undamaged.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigated the incident for a year. According to the investigation report, the engine of the New Shepard rocket heated up more than planned before the crash.
Heavy rocket in planning
The FAA ordered Blue Origin to take corrective action, particularly on certain engine parts. On Sunday, the FAA confirmed that the company had received new approval for rocket launches. Plans are also being made for a new heavy rocket, called ‘New Glenn’.
