Storms also cause accidents and stationary elevators in Styria

Date:

Heavy showers are currently putting a damper on skiing fun in many Styrian ski areas: most lifts on the Planai, the Reiteralm and Hauser Kaibling are currently closed. The fire brigade in the Ennstal is also in constant use.

In Styria there was no major damage as in Upper Austria or Salzburg, but the heavy showers left their mark, especially in the Enns Valley. “We have now alerted 25 fire brigades in the district. “There are approximately 350 people on duty,” Christoph Schlüßlmayr from the Liezen fire command told “Krone”. The Reitern fire brigade reported that the comrades had to chainsaw their way out due to fallen trees as they emerged from the armory.

While a fierce storm raged overnight, heavy snowfall has kept emergency services on their toes since the morning hours. The Selzthal and Gaishorn fire brigades also had to be deployed on Friday morning. Due to the rain, several trucks were parked diagonally on the A9 and a truck accident also occurred. According to the regional fire brigade association, more accidents also occurred on the B320 and the B113. “So far, there has only been one minor injury following a traffic accident. We currently know of no other injured people,” says a relieved Schlüßlmayr.

The weather also affects your skiing pleasure: nothing is currently possible on the Planai. “All systems are currently out of order,” the Facebook page reads. The lifts on the Hochwurzen are in operation, but due to weather conditions there may be occasional outages.

Most of the lifts on neighboring Hauser Kaibling are also out of service in the morning. The flying carpets for children and the pancake elevator ride. In any case, the Silver Jet and the Haseck and Mulden lifts are in operation on the Reiteralm.

Rail connection is cancelled
The storms also affect train traffic in Styria: according to ÖBB, the route between the Stainach-Irdning and Tauplitz train stations is expected to be closed until 1 p.m. due to the storm “Zoltan”. A replacement rail service has been set up, but due to limited capacity, waiting times can be up to 30 minutes.
