It is a cheerful event just before Christmas: the parrots of Bible World pastor Heinrich Wagner are back in the parsonage. He collected the birds from the police, who freed them from an apartment in Lehen after a tip.
“I have my two treasures back!” Heinrich Wagner (66) is very animated, while the gray parrot Iomi sits on his shoulder and fiddles with Wagner’s hair. The birds were gone for four weeks, Wagner suspected theft and reported it (the “Krone” reported). On Wednesday evening, the pastor from Elisabethvorstadt received an anonymous phone call: he had to visit a neighboring apartment in Lehen. Four parrots lived there, two more than normal. And they looked exactly like Wagner’s gray parrots Leila (8) and Iomi (10), whom he had been missing since November 24.
Pastor went to see for himself
In front of the specified apartment he could already hear the birds screaming on the street. He called the police and went himself to the battered door of the apartment, from which, according to the priest, the peephole and the bell had been removed. He then confronted the suspected thief. “He came very close to me and wanted to scare me,” Wagner recalled. So he waited outside until the police arrived. The police officers actually found the parrots. They are now investigating ‘a suspect’, as they said when asked. The suspect and the parrots were taken to the police station. Wagner was able to pick her up there. “They were very happy to see me,” Wagner said. “At home they ate for twenty minutes!”
Still a little scared
As announced, the whistleblower should receive the promised 250 euros. Leila and Iomi are back in their cage in the parsonage. They have toys hanging there and can also reach a cage on the terrace via a tunnel in the wall of the house. The birds are still a little scared. And skinny. “They haven’t had proper nutrition for a month,” says Wagner. The spring tips are slightly torn and both are very thin. Climbing is difficult for them. Iomi, who knows 90 words according to the priest and also imitates animal sounds, now speaks incomprehensibly. He and Leila are now lovingly fed with fruit and grains.
