DNA tests of dead sheep and a deer in Tyrol have now confirmed that the animals were mauled by a wolf. In addition, a golden jackal may have struck. A bear was captured by wildlife cameras in the Scharnitz municipal area.
Now it’s solved: As the state reported Thursday morning, a wolf from the Italian population is responsible for two sheep murders on May 16 and 17 in the municipality of Neustift im Stubaital (Innsbruck-Land district). A wolf also bit an examined dead doe in the municipality of Steinach am Brenner (also in the Innsbruck-Land district) on May 11, as genetic testing has now shown. On the same day, another deer was killed by a golden jackal in the municipality of Telfes in the Stubai Valley.

“In addition, wildlife camera footage from last week, which was sent to authorities from the municipality of Scharnitz, shows a bear,” the state said. More information about large carnivores can be found at www.tirol.gv.at/baer_wolf_luchs
