Italy demands 10.5 million from Berlusconi for international damage with ‘Rubi case’

Date:

The Public Prosecution Service is demanding six years in prison for the former prime minister, buying the silence of minors who attended his parties.

Italy’s government on Thursday demanded compensation from former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of 10.5 million euros for the “international disrepute” caused by the country and its institutions for its “bunga bunga” party scandal, a day after the prosecutor’s office declared demanded six years in prison for him on the occasion of these episodes in the ‘Rubi ter case’.

The lawyer Gabriella Vanadia, who represents the presidency of the Council of Ministers, explained that the scandal involving Berlusconi has “discredited worldwide” for more than a decade, and that is how long this whole judicial process has taken, for which choral singers parade, dancers and characters of all classes who were present at those parties.

Vanadia explained that this amount takes into account the extent of the corruption that has taken place to buy the silence of those parties’ witnesses – in which minors are suspected of participating – and the notoriety of those involved, not just Berlusconi, but Senator Mariarosaria Rossi, for whom the Public Prosecution Service demands a year and a half in prison, reports the newspaper ‘La Repubblica’.

The request of the Italian authorities comes a day after the prosecution asked Berlusconi to serve a six-year prison sentence and to confiscate his assets worth 10.8 million euros in the trial for bribery and manipulation of witnesses of several of the people who attended those “elegant parties” held at his opulent villa in Arcore (north).

This trial is one of the processes that make up what is known as the ‘Ruby ter case’, referring to the nickname under which the young Moroccan woman who attended these festivities, Karima el Mahroug, is believed to have joined other women who swarmed these bacchanals was underage. Accused of perjury and document forgery, they demand five years in prison and payment of 5 million euros.

The trial – expected to be handed down in the fall – is the third Berlusconi will face after he was beaten through the scandal in 2010 when he was charged with child abuse and prostitution, and was eventually acquitted for lack of evidence. Now it will have to be determined whether he bribed the guests to avoid being accused of these crimes.
