Car industry boom: German company BMW is recalling more than 61,000 cars worldwide due to a software bug. This concerns the models X3, X4 and X5 from the construction years 2016 to 2022, as shown by information on the website of the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. Outside of Germany, nearly 50,000 cars have been affected.
The incorrect software update can lead to loss of torque and engine failure. There has been no material damage to date and no one has been injured. The information is from last Tuesday.
Customers get a message
A BMW spokesperson said on Thursday that affected customers would be notified to bring their cars to the workshop. There the software is then reprogrammed.
Major recall from BMW already in March
It wasn’t until early March that BMW called nearly a million cars to workshops in North America. The reason at the time was that a valve could overheat as a result of a short circuit, creating a fire hazard. The recall affected some key models, such as the Series 3 and 5 or the X3 and X5 SUV models from various model years from 2006 to 2013.
