Two people were injured, some seriously, in an accident in the Zillertal

Serious traffic accident Friday afternoon in the Tyrolean Zillertal! Two motorists collided head-on with their cars. A 41-year-old even had to be cut out of the car by the fire brigade, he was seriously injured.

The accident happened around 12.30 pm on the B169 near Aschau (Schwaz district). A 41-year-old Hungarian was driving out of the valley when, for reasons that are still unclear, he crossed the oncoming traffic. There he first collided with the oncoming car of a 53-year-old local resident, who was then able to stop his car himself. The driver behind it, a 25-year-old resident, was less lucky: he collided head-on with the 41-year-old’s oncoming car.

Seriously injured man flown to hospital
The 25-year-old’s car was thrown off the road and came to a stop on its side, while the Hungarian’s car remained on the road. He suffered serious injuries and firefighters had to remove the 41-year-old from the wreckage. The rescue helicopter then flew him to the clinic in Innsbruck.

The 25-year-old driver of the other car suffered leg injuries and the rescue team took him to hospital in Schwaz. The 53-year-old driver of the third car was uninjured.

Road completely closed
After the accident, Zillertalstrasse had to be closed for about 1.5 hours. A diversion has been set up for the duration of the clean-up work.
