A hot sauna party ended on Friday evening with two participants in hospital with burns. A misunderstanding led to a guest pouring undiluted lead over the sauna heater. This created a flash of flame that shot against the ceiling of the sauna.
At around 7.15pm there were a total of 16 people in a sauna in Dornbirn. A sauna guest prepared the following infusion and received a bottle of pre-run.
Actually, the highly flammable precursor should have been mixed with the infusion. However, due to a communication problem, the sauna guest poured the bottle directly onto the sauna heater.
Burns all over the body
This created a flash of flame that rose and was then diverted to the side by the sauna ceiling. This injured three people, all of whom were in this part of the sauna.
One person had it particularly bad. She suffered burns all over her body and was taken by rescuers and the emergency doctor to the shock room of the state hospital in Feldkirch.
Another sauna guest admitted to Dornbirn hospital
Another guest suffered burns to his left arm and had to be taken by ambulance to Dornbirn Hospital. A third person suffered burns to his left ear. Police said the 13 other guests suffered apparent injuries but did not require medical attention.
