The Big Interview – How does a new life succeed, Mr. Innauer?

Date:

Losing weight, getting fit, having time: good intentions are as much part of New Year’s Eve as ringing the bell. Star trainer and fitness expert Toni Innauer has developed a program to make wishes and dreams come true. A ‘crowning’ conversation about the magic of new beginnings – including failures.

A large wooden table, pomegranates, mistletoe. There are also sweet lucky fish in the cookie bowl; biting off their heads is one of many New Year’s Eve rituals. “It reminds me of my sports travels,” laughs Toni Innauer (65) when we meet in the old Viennese apartment of his publisher Christian Seiler. “In Japan it was considered a test of courage to bite off the head of a huge candied man. grasshopper. A real victory!”

For the photo we bite ladyfingers and drink herbal tea from a Japanese pot. The lamp made of mother-of-pearl discs casts a warm light on his recently published book with the great title “A New Life”.

“Kron”: Piggy, horseshoe, lucky clover. Are you superstitious?
Toni Innauer: Not much. But I’m not completely free of it either. In the beginning, when I was still very afraid of ski jumping, I thought it was important to jump with my mother’s knitted red woolen hat. That gave me stability. A crash helmet would have been better (laughs). And at the first four-hills tournament I wore Japanese gloves with the red sun on them. I felt like I was going to jump two meters further. I was then banned from doing this by the Austrian Ski Association.
