Primary school students in Lower Austria experienced a nasty and especially icy surprise when they wanted to go back to class today after the Christmas holidays. On Monday evening, burglars hit the educational institution and turned off the heating.
Just at the beginning of the new cold wave, the heating at the Krems-Stein primary school was turned on at night. But the frosty reception was not due to a technical defect: burglars had entered the building at night. According to the police, the heating was also damaged.
Freezing children in the classroom
Because no lessons were possible, the primary school students were sent home. Monday brought a more than bumpy start to the new year, especially for parents. They had to pick up their children at short notice.
As ORF Lower Austria also reported, the heating worked in an adjacent building where only afternoon care takes place. According to the education directorate in St. Pölten, the children could be cared for there until they were picked up.
The police are investigating a series of burglaries
It is also hoped that classes will return to normal on Tuesday. In the meantime, the police are investigating at full speed. It is not yet clear whether and what was stolen during the coup. There have been repeated burglaries at schools in the central region in recent months.
