Attack in Brussels? – The police stopped Flixbus on suspicion of terrorism

Belgian police stopped a Flixbus on Thursday morning because a passenger was possibly planning an attack in Brussels. A fellow passenger heard a conversation and then alerted the police.

It is still unclear whether the conversation between three passengers was actually about specific attack plans. According to media reports, authorities checked the exterior of the bus after the call. Sniffer dogs were used in the vehicle.

The stricken bus was on its way to Brussels from Lille in northern France on Thursday morning when it was stopped by Belgian police near the municipality of Wetteren. The vehicle containing the suspects was led to a cordoned off area.

Minister of Justice: Call taken seriously
Security forces interrogated passengers and arrested the first suspects. Depending on the source, there is talk of three or four arrests. Belgian Justice Minister Paul Van Tigchelt said the call was immediately taken seriously. Extensive steps have been taken.
