Perpetrators were able to escape, car thieves left a trail of destruction behind

Date:

Unknown criminals endangered several road users in Lower Austria by driving wildly in a stolen car. One vehicle was even taken off the road.

A seemingly innocent car purchase now developed into a major crime story in the Weinviertel. Strangers initially pretended that they wanted to buy a small car from a private individual in the Gänserndorf district. But actually spending money on the car never seemed to have been the plan of the alleged interested parties.

Without owner, without license plate
They convinced the salesman to take an urgently needed test drive, after which the men continued without the Weinviertler. There weren’t even license plates on the vehicle when they drove away. And this escape was extremely turbulent and dangerous.

During their drive to Hainburg in the Bruck an der Leitha district, the men allegedly endangered several road users due to their risky driving style. The driver of a postal vehicle was even pushed off the road. The car had to be recovered by the fire brigade.

The escape on foot was successful
The car thieves then abandoned the stolen vehicle in the central square and continued on foot. Despite an immediate search, they managed to escape. Fortunately, they had only caused material damage so far. It is currently unclear whether the unknown people originally had other criminal plans for the car and is still the subject of investigation.
