A couple from Ferndorf went for a walk there on Tuesday afternoon. The 83-year-old husband, who suffers from dementia, lost sight of his wife, went off the right path and could no longer be found in the forest area. The woman alerted the responsible police station, which started a search.
The police helicopter Libelle FLIR from Salzburg also took part in the search. Using the thermal imaging camera, the team was able to locate the man around 8 p.m. The hypothermic patient was lying in the woods near a residential area. After initial medical treatment, the rescue was carried out quickly using the carrying system. The patient was transferred to the Arbeiter-Samariterbund ambulance and taken to the Villach LKH.
