The Frigattenkapitän Peter-Pirkham Villach Naval Comradeship is Austria’s largest association for the preservation of maritime tradition. The “Krone” visited the club and made a sea voyage through time together with chairman Heiner Zechmann.
Although Austria has not had access to the sea for over a hundred years, countless citizens of the Alpine Republic are drawn to the sea. “There have been fewer and fewer in the past,” said Heiner Zechmann, chairman of the naval comradeship Frigate Captain Peter-Pirkham Villach. The heyday for Austrian sailors was of course the time when the Austro-Hungarian Navy still patrolled the Adriatic Sea. The namesake of Villach’s naval camaraderie also served at that time: frigate captain Albert Peter-Pirkham.
