A 73-year-old farmer from Hörsching near Linz and his cousin used Sunday to do forestry work in the forest. But the collective toil ended tragically: the 73-year-old fell six meters into the depths with a hydraulic work platform that had separated from the tractor’s holder.
The old farmer and his 21-year-old nephew drove the tractor into the forest in Hörsching around 8:15 am. He had previously mounted the hydraulic work platform on the tractor’s tow bar.
The cousin parked the tractor and raised the work platform with his uncle. According to police, a shift in the center of gravity likely caused the work platform and tractor to tip over.
Cousin called the rescue team
The 73-year-old fell six meters together with the work platform and fell into the partly frozen Hörschingerbach. His cousin managed to break free from the tractor and alerted the emergency services. The injured Altbauer was taken to the Linz accident hospital.
