Partner (53) also dead – After the death of the Viennese: Suspicion of murder now off the table

Date:

After a woman (57) was found dead in her apartment in Vienna-Ottakring last April, the investigation into a suspected murder has now been discontinued. This was announced on Tuesday. At the time, the deceased’s partner was identified as a suspect.

It was on April 6 when a woman was found dead in her apartment in Ottakring. Her partner was arrested on suspicion of murder, and there was initial talk of the next possible femicide. However, the evidence was put into perspective after a short time and the 53-year-old was not taken into custody due to a lack of strong suspicion. It is now clear that the woman was not the victim of a murder.

The woman probably died as a result of a fall
As Nina Bussek, spokeswoman for the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office, explained, the murder investigation against the 53-year-old was dropped at the end of last year. The suspicion of serious physical injuries was also not confirmed during the course of the investigation, Bussek said. It could not be proven that the man had anything to do with the blunt traumatic brain injury that was the cause of the woman’s death.

“She probably died as a result of a fall. In any case, the man’s statements could not be refuted and therefore there was no concrete reason for further prosecution of the suspect in connection with a murder,” Bussek said.

Victim remained motionless on the ground
However, the Public Prosecution Service has filed a criminal complaint against the man at the Hernals District Court (BG) for abandoning an injured person. According to his own statements, the 53-year-old found his partner motionless on the ground on April 4, 2023 and instead of immediately calling emergency services, he wrote a message to his mother saying that his partner had stopped moving.

The woman could no longer be resuscitated
The 53-year-old’s mother alerted the police. Officers from the city police command Ottakring then drove to the woman’s apartment in the evening, where the 53-year-old opened the door for them. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the lifeless woman and called the Vienna Professional Rescue Service. A doctor could only determine that the 57-year-old was dead.

Partner has now passed away
The trial against the 53-year-old was already scheduled at the BG Hernals. “He did not show up for the first appointment,” court spokeswoman Judith Vondrak said Tuesday afternoon. An alternative date has been set. However, it then turned out that the man had now died. “The procedure was therefore stopped due to the death of the suspect,” said Vondrak.
