Horror accident in the South Tyrolean ski area Seiser Alm: two skiers aged 83 and 69 fell seven meters from a chairlift on Thursday. The older of the two women died on the spot, while the other accident victim was seriously injured.
How the accident could have happened near the valley station “Gold Knopf” is still being investigated. Normally, the automatically operated ski lift slows down during boarding. Then you also have time to pull the safety bar down.
According to Italian media, one of the winter sports enthusiasts may have had problems landing. The friend apparently wanted to help her, after which the fatal accident occurred in the presence of numerous skiers, who immediately alerted the rescue services.
Operator rules out technical problem
Attempts to resuscitate the 83-year-old failed and she died at the scene. Her friend was taken to Bolzano hospital with serious injuries. The elevator was just renovated in the summer. The operator is currently ruling out a technical problem.
