Police officers from Vienna save the life of a five-day-old baby. The boy had suffocated while drinking and threatened to suffocate…
The dramatic incident took place almost two weeks ago in the Favoriten district, but has only now become public knowledge. At around 11:30 p.m., the baby suddenly choked, had trouble breathing and started to turn blue. Officials from the Favoritenstraße and Ada-Christen-Gasse inspectorates arrived on the scene shortly afterwards.
Breathing stimulated with “pats”.
They immediately started first aid measures and “performed back-slapping,” police spokesman Christopher Verhnjak reported. This was an attempt to get the baby to breathe, he explained. The emergency services also included an officer who was trained as an ambulance nurse. He continued to carry out the measures until the rescuers arrived.
After being hospitalized, the little boy was stabilized. According to Verhnjak, the child survived the incident without permanent damage – thanks to the quick and professional intervention of the police officers.
