The year 2024 is still young, but on February 1, in the middle of winter, Upper Austria will mourn the first motorcyclist fatality of the year. A fatal collision with a car took place in Wels in the evening hours.
Red Cross employees tried to resuscitate the victim for some time after the collision in the Oberthan district of Wels. But the helpers had to abandon their efforts at the scene of the accident – the intersection of Vogelweiderstrasse and Dimlergutstrasse. The 50-year-old could no longer be saved.
The cause of the accident is still unclear
The course of the accident was not yet entirely clear in the evening; it probably happened while turning. The scooter driver was probably hit with the front of the car and fell.
Seven more deaths in motorcycle accidents
Last year, 19 of the 74 fatalities from accidents in Upper Austria were motorcyclists. That was seven motorcyclists more than a year earlier, but in 2021 23 motorcyclists died in accidents.
