A 53-year-old man was surprised Thursday afternoon when he opened the front door of his Milan apartment and found a basket with a baby inside. The four-week-old boy was discovered on the doorstep of an apartment on the outskirts of Giambellino in Milan. Italian media reported that he was in good health.
A note in Arabic was found in the basket. It said the mother died during childbirth and the father could not care for the child. The child was immediately taken to a hospital.
Investigation into the identity of the mother has begun
The carabinieri tried to find out what had happened on the spot. They interviewed residents of the apartments on the first floor of the building, where several migrant families live. An investigation has been launched to determine whether a woman has actually died during childbirth in recent weeks.
A similar case at Easter
The alarm was raised by a tenant, an Egyptian, who found the group of people on his doorstep. On Easter Sunday, a baby was dropped off at the Mangiagalli clinic in Milan. A message was also found in this case: “My name is Enea, I was born in the hospital,” the note said. In May, Enea was adopted by a Lombard couple.
