Last weekend a Jewish student (30) was shot dead on the street in Berlin. The suspect is a 23-year-old man who is said to have a pro-Palestinian attitude. The German government’s anti-Semitism commissioner has now spoken out, calling it a “heinous attack”.
“I am shocked by the violent attack on a Jewish student in the middle of Berlin last weekend,” the German government’s anti-Semitism commissioner, Felix Klein, said on Monday. He called on the Free University of Berlin to investigate the possible exmatriculation of the 23-year-old suspect. The idea that “Jews are attacked and seriously injured in German streets because they are Jews” is “unbearable.”
As reported, a 30-year-old student was walking with an acquaintance (24) in the Mitte district on Saturday evening when they met their 23-year-old fellow student. The older someone has to spread a pro-Israel attitude on social networks, the younger someone has to have a pro-Palestinian attitude. That could also have been the reason for their argument.
Fractures in the face
It wasn’t just words. The younger man is accused of punching his opponent several times and eventually kicking him to the ground. The 30-year-old suffered fractures to his face and was taken to hospital. There must be no danger to life.
Police say the younger man fled but was found at his home. The smartphone was seized during a search. The investigation is still ongoing.
