Excitement at the Albertina Modern: A 42-year-old Austrian is said to have rioted at the museum in central Vienna on Monday for reasons that remain unexplained. The disturber is said to have damaged a marble table and tried to topple a statue by Austrian sculptor Fritz Wotruba.
The incident happened around 3:40 p.m. Officers from the Inner City Police Command were called to the museum because the 42-year-old was damaging a marble table. According to the emergency services, he then tried to topple a statue (see photo).
After questioning, the man was given a report
The troublemaker is said to have stood with his back against the wall and tried to push the artwork away several times with both hands. The man was temporarily arrested by the police, but was released after questioning on suspicion of serious damage and attempted property damage.
Further details about why the 42-year-old wanted to destroy the work of art are not yet known.
