Several people are missing after a landslide at the site of a gold mine in Turkey. There is currently no contact with nine workers, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Tuesday. 400 people are deployed to find the workers.
The landslide occurred at around 2:30 PM local time on Tuesday at a mine in Erzincan, eastern Turkey. Images from broadcaster TRT showed large masses of earth falling down a slope. Several serious mining accidents have occurred in Turkey in recent years, partly due to inadequate safety measures.
Death in heavy rain
Meanwhile, the holiday resort of Antalya was hit by heavy rain (see video above). A 47-year-old was found dead in his car. According to Anadolu News Agency, his car was stuck in a flooded underpass. Images showed flooded shops and streets, as well as cars submerged in water.

More than 2,000 rescue workers were present and about half of the residents were brought to safety. In Kepez district it has rained more in the past twelve hours than normal in three months. Kindergartens and schools were closed for the day. The Turkish weather authority also expects heavy rain and an approaching storm on Wednesday.
