The ELA, LAB and Steilas unions have called on the teaching and research staff of the UPV/EHU for a strike day on March 6 and have called on all university staff to support the March 12 strike across the public sector. These strikes are in addition to the strikes of October 25 and December 19.
These three centers announced this Thursday in Vitoria-Gasteiz the new mobilizations against what they have defined as a “restrictive attitude of the ruling and immobile team of the Basque government” in light of the demand for “decent working conditions”.
They remembered that as one of their most important claims They end the insecurity of substitute teaching staff, restore the purchasing power of all staff, reduce teaching and workload and generally increase funding for the UPV/EHU.
ELA, LAB and Steilas have reported that over time a “worsening of structural problems” which have led to “precarious working conditions” for substitutes and that part-time teaching staff are in an “absolutely precarious” situation, which is why many substitutes remain unfilled.
After stating that all these situations have a direct impact on the quality of education, research and university managementthe centers have reiterated that the situation of the staff and, therefore, of the university is “untenable” and that the problems require an “urgent” solution.
