Fight against smugglers: – Border controls with the Czech Republic will be expanded

Date:

According to Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner (ÖVP), border controls with the Czech Republic will be extended until mid-April. “Border controls are one of many measures to combat the internationally active smuggling mafia,” said Karner.

“Given the international security situation, border controls are also necessary in the decisive action against extremists,” Karner said on Friday evening. The new extension will take place from midnight and will initially last until April 16.

Currently also three checks
Austria also currently carries out border controls with Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia.

At the other borders (Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein), intensive checks are carried out in the border area.
