During several visits, a 54-year-old abused his three nieces: the girls suffered dramatic consequences. The uncle now faces a long prison sentence at the court in Vienna for, among other things, rape.
On the second day of the trial, the suspect sits quietly in front of his lawyer with his head bowed, listening to the shocking reports about his nieces. From 2017 onwards, he abused and raped the three girls, the youngest of whom was only ten years old at the time. For example, while watching TV, he performed sexual acts with and on them under the blanket.
Woman as a witness for the defense?
The 54-year-old’s wife does not understand the terrible accusations at all. She reports a loving relationship with the three of them. “A niece wanted us to adopt her,” she says, unable to explain the rape complaint. A guess: “I haven’t had contact with my brother for fifteen years and now this is the bill we get” – she suspects the victim’s father is the instigator.
Long prison sentence for psychiatric reports
However, a report on the ability of two of the nieces to testify sees no evidence of this. Instead, the now adolescent girls may be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. “The actions can be seen as causal,” says the expert.
The Viennese maintains his denial of responsibility to the end. He was “the favorite uncle” of his nieces. However, the victim statements, the reports and incriminating chat messages between the suspect and one of the girls say something completely different. It doesn’t take long before the jury reaches a verdict on the previously innocent man: 12 years in prison for rape causing serious bodily harm and serious sexual abuse of minors – not legally binding.
