Kremlin critic: – Russia “only knows how to steal and kill”

Date:

The opponent of the Russian regime, Vladimir Kara-Mursa, has many parallels with the late Alexei Navalny. He is also held in a penal colony under terrible conditions. The politician and journalist has already survived two poison attacks. His relatives fear that Russian President Vladimir Putin could now target him.

After the murder of the Kremlin’s biggest critic, Alexei Navalny, the shock is still deep. The opposition in Russia is being suppressed more and more brutally. What motivates people to keep fighting despite these circumstances? Why are they doing this?

“Because they are real Russian patriots,” says Vladimir Kara-Mursa’s wife, Jewegenija Kara-Mursa, in the “ZIB 2” interview with Armin Wolf. The driving force behind this is their belief that Russia deserves better. Vladimir believes that it is the duty of a Russian politician to assist those who risked their lives and show that you can overcome your fears.

Prison conditions are extremely harsh
Last April, Vladimir Kara-Mursa was sentenced to 25 years in prison on charges of ‘high treason’. It is the highest punishment ever imposed on an opposition figure in Russia. Internationally he is classified as a political prisoner. Vladimir must serve his sentence under particularly harsh conditions. His cell is only a few square meters in size, the bed is against the wall and the regime there is extremely strict, says Yevgenia.

As for the killing of Kremlin opponent Alexei Navalny, Yevgeniya has no doubt that it was a planned attack. Navalny had been tortured and tormented for the previous three years. “Putin has crossed all boundaries during these years,” she says.

Almost no contact possible
She hasn’t heard from her husband in a while. Last summer she received a 15-minute phone call. However, she did not speak to him, but gave time to her three children. She stood next to them with a stopwatch so she could divide the five minutes between them exactly.

A week ago, Yevgeniya and Vladimir celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary. However, the requested call was rejected; the prison administration did not consider the occasion unusual enough to allow the conversation.

Putin probably wants to rule for life
Today she lives in constant fear of her husband. However, she cannot allow these emotions to stop her from doing the work that is so important to Vladimir. Russia is a “murderous regime that only knows how to steal and kill,” Yevgeniya said. She hopes for the day when everything collapses.

This horror probably won’t end anytime soon. According to Yevgeniya, Putin will want to rule as long as he lives. The upcoming elections have nothing in common with a democratic process. Putin is not a legitimate ruler of the Russian Federation.

Jailed opposition figure’s wife wants West unity. Unity in supporting Ukraine and condemning Putin’s crimes.
