From the ambush – “My mother suspected she was in danger”

Date:

In 2016, a woman from Upper Austria was brutally murdered by her husband. Because she divorced him – after decades of marital ordeal. The couple’s eldest daughter is now speaking out about the drama. “That,” she says, “could have been prevented.”

It was in the early morning hours of July 30, 2016, when Alexandra Leitner woke up to a loud ringing noise. “I dragged myself down the stairs from the first floor, drunk with sleep,” in her home in Sankt Valentin, Lower Austria. “Through the peephole I saw two police officers standing in front of the front door. And I immediately suspected that something terrible must have happened.”

With shaking hands, “my whole body was shaking,” the woman opened the door for the officer. “We regret to inform you that your mother recently passed away,” one of them said in a low voice. At that moment, the then 34-year-old’s eyes turned black: “I leaned on a box in the front room so as not to fall over.”

“At first I didn’t realize what had happened”
Meanwhile, her husband had also woken up: “I asked him to look after our three small children and then I changed clothes.” She changed out of her sleeping clothes, “I put on a sweater and pants, so I got ready .” For the terrible task that now awaited her; She, the eldest of four siblings, would in turn tell the others the terrible news, “that I couldn’t really realize myself.”
