Bewilderment reigns in Ausserfern in Tyrol after the suspected murder with a knife followed by suicide: after an 18-year-old German stabbed his girlfriend (17) in the car, the young man fell from the suspension bridge “Highline 179”, which stood up to 114 metre high. The violent death was likely preceded by a dispute while driving the car.
It is a terrible relationship drama that took place in Reutte on Monday evening. The 18-year-old picked up his girlfriend, who comes from Silz in the Imst district, from work between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM and drove her to Reutte, about 60 kilometers away, to the park at Kasteelwereld Ehrenberg. “There should have been a dispute between the two already during the trip,” lead researcher Katja Tersch of the LKA Tyrol told the “Krone”.
In Reutte, under the up to 114-meter high suspension bridge “Highline 179”, the 18-year-old is said to have pulled a jackknife and stabbed the teenager in the chest several times. The Tyrolean had no chance and succumbed to her serious injuries in the car.
Witness observed fatal fall
After the insane act, the teenager reached the starting point of the suspension bridge by an inclined elevator or on foot. “A passer-by saw around 8.30 p.m. how the young man first walked back and forth and then threw himself,” says Katja Tersch. In the nearby Arena Ehrenberg there were numerous concert visitors that evening, because a benefit evening of the Kiev Symphony Orchestra was taking place.
18-year-old was not known to the police
After the alarmed eyewitness called for emergency, the approaching police discovered the body of the 18-year-old. Then you ran into his dead girlfriend in the parked car. For the time being, the case has more questions than answers for Chief Investigator Tersch. “There were no derogations involving violence or an entry ban.” An exact motive and a more precise background to the crime are still unclear. On Tuesday afternoon, acquaintances of the two were questioned, Tersch continues.
Relationship with Tyrolean for about a year
Born in Bavaria, he has lived in neighboring Tyrol for twelve years. The former up-and-coming footballer and the enthusiastic amateur musician had been a couple for about a year. In Silz, the victim’s hometown, there is dismay: “I am stunned, I have never experienced a situation like this in our city,” said Mayor Helmut Dablander.
He and many others grieve with the family, who are very active and popular in the village community. One can only imagine one thing in the environment of the former star student: “It must have been a hasty act.”
