Big shock in the United States: in protest against the bloody war raging in the Gaza Strip, a US Air Force pilot set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington. The soldier broadcast the gruesome act live on the internet.
“I will no longer participate in genocide,” the man in military uniform said in the live broadcast, according to the New York Times newspaper. He then doused himself with a clear liquid, set himself on fire and shouted “Freedom for Palestine.”
In critical condition in hospital
The man was taken to a local hospital after U.S. Secret Service officials extinguished the fire, fire officials said. The man’s condition remains critical, a police spokesperson said. An Air Force spokesperson confirmed the victim was an active duty soldier. Local police and the Secret Service are investigating the incident.
The Israeli embassy has been the target of ongoing protests since the October 7 attack on Israel by the radical Islamist Palestinian group Hamas and Israeli counterattacks in the Gaza Strip. In December, a protester set himself on fire in front of the Israeli consulate in Atlanta.
