ALS, LAB, CC. OO., Steilas and ESK have denounced that two months after the last strike day and two weeks since the third was announced, the institutions have not contacted the unions to discuss the reasons that led to the strike.
The unions ELA, LAB, CC. OO., Steilas and ESK registered this Wednesday the call for a strike in the public sector of the Basque Autonomous Community on March 12.
In addition to registering the strike with the Labor Department of the Basque government in Bilbao, the representatives of the calling unions – with an 80% representation in the public sector – then held a meeting at the same place. They have also gathered in front of the Santiago Hospital (Vitoria-Gasteiz) and next to the Palace of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa (Donostia/San Sebastián).
The trade union centers have denounced that, two months since the last strike day and two weeks since the third was announced, neither the Basque government, nor EUDEL, nor the provincial councils, nor the delegate of the Spanish government have been in contact with the unions to talk about the reasons that led to the strike.
Moreover, they have denounced that “while our institutions are raking in record revenues and budget surpluses, temporary employment is reaching the historic ceiling of 44% and the loss of purchasing power has exceeded 8% over the past two years.”
For all these reasons, ELA, LAB, CCOO, STEILAS and ESK are calling on government workers to massively support the strike. In concrete terms, these are the demands of the unions:
– Accept no borders from the state, without impositions or vetoes from Madrid
– 10% salary increase and commitment to recover previous debts
– Close the door on privatization and agree on publication plans
– Create and consolidate public employment, bringing temporary employment to below 8%
– Relieve the workload by guaranteeing the health of the staff
– Agree on feminist policies, with real and effective equality plans
– Basque administrations and staff
– Move the reduction in working hours towards the 32-hour working week
– A 10% salary increase in 2024 and a commitment to recover previously incurred debts
In order to “continue with the preparation of the strike, the unions call on the government employees of the CAV to concentrate on the shop floor before March 12 under the motto “Zerbitzu publikoak indartzeko, soldata eta enplegua hemen adostu”.
