The run-over sushi landlady from Linz tells the “Krone” about the verdict pronounced on the two teenagers and what it was like to face them again for the first time since the horror trip in August. She also reveals what no judgment can change and what she would have liked.
On Tuesday, the two Graz teenagers who ran over a sushi landlady from Linz with their car in August had to face the verdict in their hometown. As reported, at the time of the crime, the 17-year-old was sentenced to 30 months in prison, and the 16-year-old driver, who had multiple convictions, even had to serve four years in prison – not legally binding.
“I think the sentences are fair because the two are still minors,” says their victim Lihua C. (42). After all, they ruined their own young lives, and she could have imagined harsher sentences for older offenders.
Only seen briefly
Concerns about a traumatic reunion with the perpetrators in court were fortunately not confirmed on the day of the trial: “I only saw them briefly when I was called to the witness stand,” says the sushi landlady. “And there were several people between us, so it wasn’t too bad for me!”
A judgment doesn’t change that
The physical health of those who were run over is significantly worse: as reported, Lihua C. has had to undergo six operations and more operations will follow. “Those two ruined my life too. I am in a lot of pain, have to take medication and cannot help my husband at work!” No judgment can change that.
Would have meant a lot
It was quite “strict”, also because the two denied any intention until the end. “That’s why they never apologized to my client,” the victim’s lawyer said. “It wouldn’t have made everything right, but it would have meant a lot to her!”
