Olena Selenska speaks “honestly” with her children about the ongoing conflict and “divorce” of her father. The president’s wife, 44, said her children, Oleksandra (17) and Kyrylo (9) know what’s going on. The younger sibling Kyrylo has even started explaining to his father what the armed forces should do. “He’s a growing political scientist, he knows everything, he gives us military advice on what to buy,” the president’s wife said.
It’s easier to talk about the war with Selenska’s eldest daughter. She’s already grown up. “She reads everything, sees everything and knows what victories we need to achieve to end the war,” says the 44-year-old.
Wanting to “destroy national consciousness”
Speaking to journalists, she added that she believed Russia was trying to “destroy our national consciousness” as part of its unjust and illegal invasion of the country. She is also heartbroken at the impact of the conflict on her family. She’s just trying to get through this whole time and the divorce from her husband.
In a speech earlier this month, Zelenska said she was not surprised that her husband had inspired the world with his unwavering leadership and fierce opposition to Russia. She added: “No one can take my husband from me, not even war.”

“I can’t say that Volodymyr has changed since the beginning of the war. He used to be a reliable husband and a reliable man, and he remains so. His perspective has not changed, his attitude has not changed,” said the 44-year-old .
