The accident happened Thursday morning. The 57-year-old was doing forestry work in a forest near Kaisersdorf (Oberpullendorf district).
He only felled trees. However, some branches remained hanging. Suddenly one of them fell and landed on the man’s back. The 57-year-old was thrown to the ground.
Man injured indefinitely
The man barely managed to contact a friend by phone. This started the rescue chain. Emergency services responded. After receiving emergency medical care at the scene, the 57-year-old was taken to Wiener Neustadt hospital by the Christophorus 3 emergency medical helicopter. The fire brigade was also involved in the recovery work.
More and more forestry accidents in Austria
Nearly 200 people have had fatal accidents while working in the forest in Austria over the past six years. That’s an average of three deaths per month. In 17 percent of cases, victims die from falling branches.
