Airline passengers can breathe a sigh of relief: ground crews of German AUA parent company Lufthansa ended their warning strike on Saturday with their shift starting at 7.10am. The connections between Germany and Austria were also affected.
The departure boards of the Lufthansa hubs in Frankfurt and Munich showed several flight cancellations on Saturday morning. Activities will gradually ramp up again throughout the day. Due to the impact of the strike, isolated flight delays and cancellations may still occur throughout the day.
25,000 workers called for a strike
The union had called on around 25,000 employees to stop work since Wednesday evening. About 1,000 flights were canceled on Thursday and Friday and only ten to twenty percent of the originally planned flights could go ahead. The additional warning strike by aviation security forces in Hamburg and Frankfurt ended on Thursday.
In addition to an inflation compensation bonus of 3,000 euros, the ver.di union is demanding salary increases of 12.5 percent for a period of twelve months for ground staff. The next round of negotiations will start next Wednesday.
