A Moscow court has sentenced a student to 10 days in prison for calling his WiFi network a pro-Ukrainian slogan during Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine, according to a media report.
The man who studied in Moscow called his network “Slawa Ukraini” (“Glory of Ukraine”). This is the battle cry of the Ukrainian armed forces.
The police have reported a ‘crime’ to the authorities
A police officer provided the name of the WiFi network to the authorities. The court subsequently found the student guilty of “public demonstrations of Nazi symbols (…) or symbols of extremist organizations,” according to RIA Novosti news agency.
Since Russia’s offensive began in February 2022, thousands of prison sentences or fines have been imposed on people who publicly criticize the offensive or support Ukraine.
