In a blow to the European drug scene in Tyrol: a Bulgarian truck was pulled out of traffic on the Inntal highway in the lowlands, in which 120 kilos of marijuana, worth about one million euros, was smuggled – hidden among toilet paper.
In addition to the Federal Criminal Police Office and the LKA Tirol, the Bulgarian authorities were also involved in the investigation into the smuggling journey. This came to an end last Friday in the Tyrolean lowlands.
Access via the Inntal highway
“Highway police officers managed to locate a Bulgarian tractor-trailer on the A12 in the Wörgl area towards Germany, which, according to information, was loaded with a large quantity of marijuana,” investigators said.
The truck was then diverted to a parking lot at Langkampfen and closely examined. A 47-year-old Bulgarian was behind the wheel of the heavy vehicle.
The police dog sniffed out drugs
„The trailer was loaded to the brim with toilet paper. A drug sniffer dog from the Innsbruck police dog inspection, which has now been activated, showed clear reporting behavior in the vicinity of the loading area,” the researchers continued.
During a more detailed search, the police were puzzled. A total of 110 packages of marijuana were discovered in the so-called coil trough. In total, it involved 120 kilos of drugs – with a street value of approximately one million euros.
Truck driver in custody
„The Bulgarian truck driver was arrested,” police said. He has now been taken into custody. Further investigations are underway.
