The residents of a retirement home in Upper Austria’s Innviertel are concerned about their health.
“Harmonisch Leben” is the name of a residential complex for the elderly in Eitzing (Ried district). But there has been no trace of harmony for a year. “My water came out of the tap red. If I drink more, I vomit,” says Anna Häfensauer (77) desperately.
The retiree is annoyed that she and her roommates are “not taken seriously”. “Property management always puts us off,” she says. Finally, the residents have had the water examined on their own initiative. The result: it contains extremely high levels of manganese (a metal). The limit for this is 0.05 mg/l, 1.27 mg/l was measured in Eitzing.
Mayor does not help
There is no help from the municipality. “This is a private property,” Mayor Margot Zahrer (ÖVP) said succinctly to the “Krone”. She even described the residents against the “Krone” as people “wanting to screw someone up”.
The responsible real estate company Rustler tried to calm down. “The most important thing is that there is no health risk. There is a problem in the water treatment plant. That must be resolved quickly,” says general manager Martin Troger. Perhaps the residents received too little information, he admits that they made mistakes.
