An innkeeper from Hof has arrested an alleged sacrificial box thief from Romania. After a chase and police check, it turned out that the exact same perpetrator had already been arrested by the aforementioned innkeeper for the same crime in 2017.
A 33-year-old Romanian is accused of stealing money from the offering box at the church in Hof yesterday, Tuesday morning. As he left the church, the man was observed by a local innkeeper who became suspicious, telephoned the police and simultaneously pursued the fleeing suspect. The Romanian was finally able to barricade himself in the visitors’ toilet of the retirement home.
Perpetrator already caught by the landlord
He only left after the police arrived. During a search, several folded banknotes and coins with a total value of more than 130 euros were seized. Objects that the man may have used to ‘fish’ out of the victim’s coffin were probably destroyed by flushing them in the toilet several times.
The suspect refused to testify and is charged with theft. He is no stranger to the police, as he was already caught stealing the offering box by the innkeeper in the same church in 2017.
