How will Putin respond to the attack?

Date:

Russia’s president made a direct connection between the attackers and Ukraine, but without providing evidence, and will most likely respond by attacking there. However, it is in Central Asia where Islamic State is strongest.

After the carnage carried out by the Islamic State on the outskirts of Moscow last weekend, the question floating on the international stage is what the response will be that Russian President Vladimir Putin will give.

In the first public appearance after the attack, the Russian leader drew a direct link between the attack and Ukraine, arguing that terrorists tried to flee to that country.

But Putin has provided no evidenceand the international community and Ukraine itself fear they will use that excuse to intensify the attack on Kiev.

The international expert thinks so too. Mikel Ayestaránthat Russia will most likely pay together with Ukraine for the “serious security lapse” incurred in the attack, as Russian leaders already knew from Western intelligence services that the risk of an attack was very high.

Just today, the Kremlin said this is still the case “there is no defined hypothesis” about the authorship of the attack, and has called for waiting for the conclusions of the ongoing investigation.

Ayestarán recalled that Where the Islamic State is strongest is Central Asiawhich has spread mainly from Afghanistan, and therefore it would be “the most logical” for the response to take place in that area.

Russia has been in the crosshairs of the Islamic State for some time because, alongside Al-Assad, it is fighting in Syria as a participant in the alleged war against Islam. In that sense, it’s worth checking out ISIS attack on the Russian embassy in Kabul.

With all this, we will be able to see in the coming days, weeks or months what Putin’s response to the attack will be.
