ORF cameraman kicked the nervous horse “Toronto” in the head with the hoof

Date:

An ORF employee from Mühlviertel was seriously injured by a stressed Noriker gelding during filming at the horse market in Obernberg am Inn. The 61-year-old will probably not be able to work for weeks. The accident happened during the filming of the very last shots.

Afshin Amin cannot laugh about the incident. The pain in his cast right hand is too great. But the Mühlviertler is grateful to fate that something worse did not happen to him. “I’m glad I’m still alive,” the 61-year-old emphasizes.

The self-employed cameraman was on duty for ORF at the horse market in Obernberg am Inn on Saturday. There he filmed the parades of countless beautifully decorated horses with their owners, and beautiful carriage teams also arrived. A spectacle that thousands of spectators did not want to miss.

Safety distance
Amin also wanted to capture the awards ceremony on film for his client. The 61-year-old, who used to own and ride horses himself, always kept a safe distance of about 2.5 meters.

“At first everything went well, then I wanted to shoot one more time,” says the born Persian. But that was exactly the moment the accident happened. “I was standing sideways next to a Noriker who suddenly turned his backside and kicked out.”

Camera on shoulder
The hoof of the black gelding “Toronto” shot towards Amin’s head at lightning speed: “Luckily I had the camera on my shoulder, so she and my hand were hit first and absorbed the force of the kick.”

The Mühlviertler staggered back in fright and could no longer move his hand. Afshin had a weak attack and had to sit down. A colleague and other first aiders supported him until the Red Cross arrived and transported him to the Ried Clinic.

Broken bone
A fracture of the metacarpal bone was diagnosed. “I now have to wear a cast for six weeks and then a few more weeks in rehab. But if the bone does not grow together properly, surgery will be necessary,” sighs Amin, who is not angry with the horse: “I can understand that it was nervous – the noise and all the people were clearly stressed. “
