Major project launched – Two years after the storm: The shock is still deep

Date:

Two years after the once-in-a-century catastrophe in Arriach, the large-scale flow and avalanche control projects long awaited by the population are being tackled.

The flood disaster at the end of June 2022, which destroyed the belongings of many families in Arriach and Teuchen and killed beloved animals, still causes sleepless nights for residents – especially during a thunderstorm. The traces are still visible even after two years.

Two temporary bridges won’t be replaced by the state until the fall. At the Pilsachhof, which now shines in new splendor, a traffic light arrangement still applies for the single-lane temporary bridge. “Two million euros have been invested in the emergency measures so far,” Mayor Gerald Ebner emphasizes. “Smaller bridges along Teuchen Straße, which were swept away by the Arriacher Bach, have already been replaced.”

Major project started
The first construction phase – from the Pilsachhof to the trendy sports complex and Baumgartnerhof/Hundsdorf – of the extensive, large-scale flow and avalanche control project will finally start in May. The Arriacher Bach is blocked, barriers are built in the gorge and extensive dike structures are built. “Safety will be improved. By 2033, eleven million euros will flow into this project,” said Ebner.

Ceremony in August
The landmark in the gorge, a wooden structure, will also be rebuilt. A ceremony is planned there on August 30 – as a thank you to the numerous helpers, from the armed forces to the tireless fire brigades and volunteers.
