In the current economic situation, the relatively high lending interest rates hurt twice as much, especially if you urgently need a loan. Internet research can help, but fraudsters are lurking.
At the end of February, a 55-year-old from the Völkermarkt district searched the Internet for attractive loan conditions and came across a renowned online bank. “He wanted to take out a loan of several thousand euros from this bank,” the police report. “He then had to make several transfers to foreign accounts.”
Whether it concerns taxes, commissions (also “refundable”) or other costs – the “bank” demanded more and more transfers so that it could pay out the loan. “When these ‘fees’ eventually amounted to almost double the requested loan amount, he became suspicious and filed a report,” police said. But by then several thousand euros in damage had already been caused, which the 55-year-old will probably have to bear.
