Safety summit – “Tutto Gas”: Lignano wants to take even tougher action

Date:

In four weeks’ time the post will be on the road again on the Upper Adriatic Sea at Pentecost. This year with even more police presence.

In February, the so-called Commission for Public Order and Safety met for the first time. Next week, those responsible (including police representatives and Lignano’s mayor Laura Giorgi) will sit down again.

Because this year it will be “Tutto Gas” again two weeks earlier than usual in the popular seaside resort on the Upper Adriatic Sea when tens of thousands of Austrians (but also Italians) arrive for the traditional Pentecost weekend.

Checks upon entry
It is already certain: even more police forces and private security personnel and even stricter measures. In addition, intensive checks must be carried out when “entering” the seaside resort. And this despite the fact that last year was much quieter than normal and was feared due to stricter regulations such as earlier curfews, watermelon, bottle and glass bans and night-time beach closures.

And although there is no official request from the Italians yet, at least two Carinthian police officers will probably be sent to the party this year as liaisons, interpreters and mediators. While some people applaud the authorities’ crackdown, many others cannot understand it.

“This is about three days outside the high season. And it only affects a small part of Lignano. You can easily avoid the crowds. “Last year, countless young people fled to Croatia or Jesolo because of the strict rules,” says restaurateur Giuseppe.

Imprisonment after panic
The consequences that a “Tutto Gas slip” can have are illustrated by a court sentence recently handed down to a young Italian in Udine: one year and six months in prison! Because the 24-year-old attacked police officers while on duty, bit an officer in the thigh and kicked an ambulance.
