China launches next team of astronauts into space

Date:

In another historic Chinese space mission, three taikonauts have arrived at the Tiangong space station to complete its construction. The astronauts reached the Chinese space station on Sunday after about “seven hours of flying,” Chinese state television reported. They launched at night from the Jiuquan space center in the Gobi Desert (see video above).

During their six-month stay, the three astronauts will continue to expand their space station. The Chinese government’s goal is for the station to be fully operational by the end of the year.

Scientific experiments are also planned
The team consists of two men and one woman. Commander is 43-year-old Air Force pilot Chen Dong. The other two members are Cai Xuzhe and Liu Yang. The three must connect the two modules of “Tiangong”. According to state media, scientific experiments are planned in addition to the construction work.

China wants to overtake Russia and the US
It was not until mid-April that three taikonauts returned to Earth from “Tiangong” (“Heavenly Palace”). Her six-month stay in space was the longest manned space mission to date in the People’s Republic. China wants to overtake the other space nations with its missions.

The People’s Republic has invested billions in its space program and has already had some successes. China was the first country to land a spacecraft and exploration rover on the dark side of the moon. Last year, the rover “Zhurong” landed on Mars, which is supposed to explore the surface of the planet.
