Knife attack – Ukrainian soldiers killed during rehabilitation in Bavaria

Date:

The two Ukrainians allegedly murdered by a Russian in Bavaria were members of the Ukrainian armed forces. They were in Germany for medical rehabilitation to recover from their war injuries.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has instructed his diplomats to monitor the case and liaise with German authorities to ensure the suspect is punished according to the law.

Kuleba thanked the German authorities for the arrest of the 57-year-old suspect, as the Internet portal “Ukrainskaya Pravda” reported. The Russian is said to have killed the two Ukrainians who were found with stab wounds on the grounds of a shopping center on Saturday.

It was still unclear whether there was a connection with the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, which Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin started on February 24, 2022. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians live in Germany.

Men died from stab wounds
It is currently being clarified in which Ukrainian units the men served. Contact will also be made with relatives. The men, aged 23 and 36, lived in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. According to investigators, they died of stab wounds – the older of the two directly at the crime scene, the younger a short time later in a hospital.

The investigating judge issued an arrest warrant for murder on Sunday. The police initially did not make it clear whether the three men knew each other and whether there was a dispute in connection with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
