A serious accident occurred between two trucks on the Vienna Südosttangente (A23) on Thursday morning. Fortunately, no one was injured. However, the subsequent recovery of the vehicles posed a major challenge for the emergency services.
The two vehicles collided at around 9am at the Hanson bend in Vienna-Favoriten while traveling south. The driver’s cabin of the truck that ended up on the road was severely damaged. Among other things, the compressed air supply line ruptured and coolant leaked. However, the two drivers were able to get out unscathed.
Several hours of use
The emergency services had to dismantle the propeller shaft of one truck and then remove it from the A23 using the lifting goggles of a special vehicle, fire spokesman Christian Feiler said. The other truck was repaired by removing damaged body parts such that the driver could independently remove the vehicle from the scene. The operation on Austria’s busiest highway lasted more than an hour and a half.
