A doctor from Styria was charged with animal abuse on Friday because she appeared with her horse at a Corona demo in Gleisdorf. The 51-year-old did not cooperate during the trial and provoked the judge and the public prosecutor. Ultimately, she was acquitted (not legally binding).
During the corona pandemic, Gleisdorf in East Styria developed into a stronghold for opponents of measures and mandatory vaccinations. Hundreds of demonstrators regularly marched through the city in so-called ‘light walks’.
There was also a prominent player in the Corona demo scene present time and again, a 51-year-old doctor, who was banned from practicing in February 2021 due to her statements and behavior.
On horseback at a demonstration
The woman now had to appear in court in Graz for a bizarre performance at a demo in March 2022. The former hospital doctor mingled with the demonstrators on her horse. Given the noise and blue police lights, the horse would have been extremely stressed. At least that’s how a police officer saw it and filed a complaint for animal cruelty.
The mood at Friday’s trial was heated from the start; the suspect, who was accompanied by a number of comrades, made a defiant impression and strained the nerves of the judge and the public prosecutor from the start. The first altercation occurred during the first check of the personal data. When asked about her current job, the 51-year-old told the judge: “It’s none of your business. What kind of work do you do?”
“Horse has excellent health”
Of course, she didn’t feel guilty of animal abuse: “That’s probably a bad joke.” Her lawyer intervened: “The horse is in excellent health.” The defendant also did not miss the opportunity to explain the purpose of her appearance once again, namely that people ‘recognize what this poison injection (the Covid vaccination, mind you) does’ – ‘It is about animal abuse, not about the type of meeting the judge replied drily, deliberately overlooking the constant provocations in the form of smugness, smiled or argued, and questioned two more witnesses. A police officer stated that the horse almost crashed into a patrol car, which the suspect denied. The veterinary report stated that such a situation caused “unnecessary suffering” for animals.
Acquittal “in doubt”
Ultimately, however, it was not enough for a conviction; the woman was acquitted ‘out of doubt’ because ‘a crime could not be established with the necessary certainty’, the judge explained. The entire anti-vaccination group left in triumph. “We’re going to celebrate now,” the doctor told the prosecutor. “I don’t care, have a nice day,” he did not allow himself to be provoked at the end. The judgment is not final.
